"The Piglet Who Would Be King" is the fifth episode of the first season of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. It originally aired on February 14, 1988.
Synopsis[]
Pooh is looking through his closet and happens upon a spring from a Jack-in-the-box. He gives this to Piglet as a ’friendship present’. To show his thanks, Piglet, along with Tigger and Rabbit, set out to gather honey to give to Pooh in return. Since there is currently a honey shortage in, they decide to travel to the Land of Milk and Honey. Meanwhile, Pooh battles honey-nappers he thinks are stealing honey.
Plot[]
One day, Winnie the Pooh finds an old metal spring in a box and decides to give it to Piglet as a best friend gift. After he does so, Rabbit and Tigger tell Piglet he should surprise Pooh with something he likes, though Piglet only has a small honey pot which Tigger and Rabbit say is not enough. Rabbit suggests he gets more honey straight from a honey tree, though the plan goes awry when the bees attack him. The three go around the Hundred Acre Wood and gather honey pots as Piglet carries them in a tall pile. However, he eventually loses his balance and drops them, which causes them to break and ruins the honey. With no honey left, Tigger says they should go to “The Land of Milk and Honey”, which is in a jungle somewhere in the forest. They start their journey the next day, going through the woods and a jungle. On the way, they ask a hyena, who is very easy to make laugh, then a monkey band, for directions to the Land of Milk and Honey. The mention of the name keeps getting Rabbit trampled by a bunch of excited little purple Buffalumps.
They finally make it to the Land of Milk and Honey and find it is inhabited by Pygmy Piglets. The Piglets see the spring that Pooh gave Piglet and claim it is the “sacred tail”, so they make Piglet their king. Piglet is unsure about this, but Tigger and Rabbit talk him into it, saying they can get whatever they want. They also say they will do the talking for him and be his prime minister and chamberlain. After that, they help Piglet put the spring on the bottom of a giant Piglet statue, which makes it pour honey into a fountain, though Piglet is worried about how he will tell Pooh he lost the present. Later, Rabbit teaches some of Piglets how to garden while Tigger teaches another group how to bounce, each claiming they were ordered to by Piglet. Tigger and his group end up bouncing into a garden Rabbit and his group have planted. Tigger and Rabbit begin arguing, which Piglet witnesses and gets concerned about. Tigger and Rabbit then each have the Piglets build giant statues of them, once again saying Piglet wanted them. Piglet tells them that people should do nice things as a desire rather than out of obligation and walks sadly away. Tigger and Rabbit realize they are being spoiled and decides to go home. That night, they sneak out and remove the spring from the statue, which causes a volcano of honey to erupt. The Piglets run frantically to Piglet and ask what to do. Piglet decides to speak for himself and has the Piglets knock down the statues of Rabbit and Tigger. The ruins act as a dam and stop the honey from flowing into the village. While the Piglets cheer for their king, Tigger looks on and learns that Piglet is good at being king after all.
Meanwhile, Pooh had been searching for Piglet, Rabbit, Tigger. When he finds them missing and that they have no honey, he concludes a honey-napper is on the lose, so he barricades his front door and keeps on guard for the honey-napper. That night, Piglet, Rabbit, and Tigger return and enter Pooh's house through his opened back door. Piglet gives him a honey pot, to which Pooh tells Piglet that his friendship is enough, but decides to eat it anyway as to not let it go to waste.
