Al started at Sherdian College in 1973 and began his career working for Hanna Barbara and Depatie Freleng up to 1980 (Did Scooby Doo series, Batman, Superman, Godzilla, Flintstones, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck shorts and the Pink Panther). From there he become one of the first overseas animation supervisors to work in animation for Dong Seo and Cuckoo's Nest up to 1983 and even owned a studio named Canimage Productions. From there he worked on television ads as a freelancer before doing animation for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He then went to Munich Germany to co-direct a Pico feature and did more freelancing with television ads. He then went onto Walt Disney Animation London and did the Ducktales movie and a couple of episodes of TaleSpin before moving to Warner Brothers as an animator for Bebe's Kids, The King & I and Rover Dangerfield. He would then work on television ads from 1995 onward; with director, storyboards and character designs for Timm Thaler and the promo for Lucky 13. Recently; he did a Red Bull television ad.

He is Animator of April Pooh on The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
